Friday 16th June
I got into serious cycling through the support and encouragement of a lovely gent who lived near me when I was a child and saw my embryonic interest in the sport. Ted Kelly was born in Swansea in 1908 and when in his late twenties, he cycled up to Lancashire to find work. When I first met him, he was close to retirement and he helped me get to all manner of cycling events and even ‘lent’ me a racing bike (it was never returned!)
So why am I woffling on about Ted? Well because on his ride from South Wales, he cycled through the Mersey Tunnel just after it had opened, which I thought was amazing. Bikes are (quite rightly) not welcome in the tunnel now, but once a year, the Queensway Tunnel is closed to motor traffic and a cycle sportive uses it for a charity ride.
I have wanted to do this ride for a few years now, and I’ve at last signed up for the Liverpool – Chester – Liverpool ride next month. As a charity ride, I need to raise funds for a very good cause, the NSPCC, which is the purpose of this post.

So if you would like to support the NSPCC, please go to my ‘Just Giving’ page here.
I will let you know all about the ride in a few weeks.
