16f. Marquetry

Hardly a long-lasting hobby, this was something that I enjoyed for a few weeks over the winter period as an alternative to watching TV in the mid 1980s.  It was basically painting by numbers but using wood veneer.  The process was to use a scalpel to cut out shapes from different types of wood veneer and glue them onto a chipboard base to form a picture.  I completed three pieces in total, which were hung on my wall for a while.  They‘re in the loft now, where I suspect they’ll stay.  My over-arching memory of this hobby is that ebony is extremely hard to cut with a scalpel and I was rubbish at varnishing the finished product.
