This year’s mileage was boosted by cycle trips to the Essex, the North York Moors, Shropshire and Derbyshire. At the time, 5000 was my second highest annual mileage recorded, and was actually my target mileage during the late 70s and early 80s, although I never managed to meet it.
The tour from Nottingham to Essex was so that I could ‘draw’ a continuous red line from Switzerland to the North of Scotland. (This is shown on a map of the last ten years of Strava data, below.
