For most of us, 2020 was a very strange year. From a cycling perspective, it began normally for me, but then I was knocked off the bike in January and suffered a broken collar bone (and a broken bike!). By the time I was able to ride again, the country was in lockdown, so I didn’t get out as much as I’d wanted.
In addition, my ‘part time’ work at a bike shop suddenly became full time as everyone wanted bikes. My workload rapidly increased and I found myself working out of a lock-up in Bamber Bridge assembling as many new bikes as we could get our hands on, and repairing many others. In May, I worked for 27 of the available 31 days.
These two events explain why my annual mileage was about a third of the previous year.
